Performance and Utility

Both the Kia Sportage and the Honda CR-V come with standard front-wheel drive and available all-wheel drive as well as an independent front and rear suspension. The Sportage and CR-V have comparable performance, with both models coming with direct-injection engines and continuously variable valve timing. However, the Kia Sportage also offers a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers240 horsepower and 237 pound-feet of torque - the CR-V can't match this output. If you want to bring along extra equipment or a small boat or trailer, then having enough towing power is essential. The Sportage offers a towing capacity of 2,000 pounds while the CR-V delivers 1,500 pounds of towing.

Exterior and Interior Design

While both crossovers have many of the same features, the Sportage has an available windshield de-icer with its base model, which is especially helpful for Maine winters. The CR-V doesn't offer this feature anywhere on its base model or its lineup, for that matter. The Kia Sportage also offers the Smart Welcome feature, which welcomes your approach by automatically unfolding your exterior mirrors and illuminating the door handles. This convenient nighttime feature isn't offered with the CR-V lineup.

The Kia Sportage again distinguishes itself by offering an available eight-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, which handily beats out the available four-way power-adjustable available option in the Honda CR-V lineup. Staying comfortable and cozy should be an option no matter what lineup you choose to explore. The Honda CR-V offers heated front seats, but that's the only amenity you'll find. The Kia Sportage offers ventilated seating in addition to a heated front-row, giving you the option to be comfy whenever you want.

From the base model on up, the Kia Sportage starts more equipped and connected than the base Honda CR-V. The Sportage enjoys a standard eight-inch touchscreen, along with Bluetooth® calling and Voice Recognition compatibility. While the CR-V also offers an eight-inch touchscreen, it doesn't come standard with that feature - you'll need to upgrade to the more expensive EX trim to unlock the same capability that is standard to the Sportage lineup. The Kia SUV also offers Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ integration standard, features that the CR-V base model lack.

Both lineups equip a full slate of advanced safety features, helping you drive with confidence through thick traffic and tricky road conditions. The 2021 Sportage offers both Blind-Spot Collision Warning and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning with its base model, giving you peace of mind when you can't see the traffic around you. Honda offers these features, but they aren't available to the base trim level.

Which Compact Crossover Comes Out on Top?

While the Honda CR-V provides the Kia Sportage with some stiff competition, if you're interested in a lower cost, a more robust interior design, and better warranty options, then the 2021 Kia Sportage is the right choice for you.
